Good and bad work

Yay! First official concentration piece (I think I will work on it some more tho.)
Sketchbook page (the new small one, to get me out of my big one)
Last big sketchbook page:( But the start of a concentration:):):)
This is an old piece, I just never posted it. Probably because I hated it and never finished it.
And I have already destroyed it.
This goes from most recent at top to oldest at bottom. I'm just sooooo happy I am out of my funk and I am so ready to start my concentration!

Concentration Statement

My concentration is focused on breaking free from the constraints of the educational system. For the majority of my time in grade school, I was entirely focused on taking the hardest
classes and standing out in my grade. I was so focused on being the top in my academics that my life was consumed by this unhealthy obsession that revolved solely around my schoolwork. I
began having unrealistic expectations of what I could accomplish and I would stress to the point of making myself literally sick. When I started to take art seriously, I realized that I had gotten
so caught up on getting good grades that I had lost a sense of my own identity. My pieces are representational of me breaking free from the expectations of school and society in order to
discover my true self.

Long time no see!

Hey guys, sorry its been a while. I guess I took a little hiatus from my blog (and just my art in general) but by not focusing on my stuff for a while has given me new focus. I am working on a new BIG piece, and it is going to be the start of my new and awesome concentration!!!! the real deal. I think I will be especially inspired with finals and stuff coming up too.
I have been looking at some artists, and a few that I have been looking at lately are Zhou Fan (he is this contemporary chinese artist, and his stuff is AWESOME!) and Hope Gangloff (she works some in ACRYLIC! and pen)
And I will soon have up my concentration statement.
And I am sorry I haven't posted pics lately, I haven't really done anything, been busy working on a float for the Johns Creek Founder's parade and organizing for National Portfolio Day (which went well:)

Philip Guston and Henri Riviere.

Philip Guston and Henri Riviere. Two artists that I am looking at. Over the summer I saw an exhibition of Guston's at the National Gallery, I think. And Riviere does this really cool prints. I seem to be drawn to prints lately, even though I don't do printmaking...but yeah. Here are two of their works..

Time to pick it up!

So, I kinda slacked off this week when it came to my pieces, and it definitely showed. Other than the obvious, I think I need to darken the shading (maybe a 6B pencil) and do some more research. I already have an idea for my next piece, and I just found my cool art paper so I am going to try to use the paper in it. Here are the pieces anyway...

new new AP art stuff

So, for the next two assignments one was on foreshortening and the other was concentration, and, well, turns out I don't like my concentration idea anymore! so I have another one! my foreshortening piece turned out well, i was happy with it (finally!) and I did a sketchbook page right before it, and I was happy with that too! so I think i am going to be moving in more of this direction for my concentration, kinda like happy garden/motherland. Cool.

This is the foreshortening assignment. While it takes a very minimal approach to it, i actually am satisfied with it. I just started sketching and then went with my gut in choosing the pink color, which i should start doing more often instead of forcing things like i have been.

Whoa!

Crazy! So now that I have gone post happy on my artwork, maybe I should take a little break...
Lately I have been looking up some of the artists I have jotted down in my sketchbook over the summer, and one that I have really enjoyed is Wayne Thiebaud.  I like the patterns he uses and the light pastel colors.  I seem to be having some issues with dark and heavy colors when I attempt to use them, and so I am thinking about using a lighter color scheme.  They are also very lighthearted and fun on top of it all, and is a nice distraction from the chaotic-ness of high school right now.

sketchbook pages

Here are some sketchbook pages. More coming as soon as I figure out how to rotate pictures!

Ap art first six weeks!

Here is the only good thing that I have done so far.  I am still working on ideas for concentration because somehow what I have in my sketchbook and what is happening with my final pieces is not occurring... so frustrating! But I am working on it and will hopefully become more comfortable as the year goes along. And better at time management:)

Nautilus shell.

and a little something extra... my mom found this guy on the patio.  I have been getting a lot of inspiration lately from nature, and so hopefully he will be somewhere in one of my pieces in the future!

Mica Pre College '09

Here is some stuff from my summer at Mica Pre-college, which was so awesome I can't even describe it with words.

This was inspired by Chuck Close, and I will try to get a better picture soon.

Notes, and a cool/weird gesture drawing.
